Ryoko Hirose

About Me

Ryoko Hirose is a writer of character-driven historical fiction. She holds a Master’s in Public Policy from NYU Wagner, a BA in East Asian Studies from Skidmore College, and has done graduate-level research at Nagoya University as a Boren Fellow. Combining her educational background with her passion for storytelling, she uses her research skills to carefully bring historical periods to life. Drawn to themes of family, identity, and belonging, she likes to explore how upbringing and culture shape the choices people make, and how those choices come to define us.

Born and raised in New York City, Ryoko has also lived in Tokyo and Nagoya. When she isn’t dreaming up new stories, she spends her time cooking, reading, and defending Nagoya against its title as Japan’s least popular city.
